Info

Velingrad is one of the oldest, most beautiful and most famous Bulgarian spa resorts. It lies at the western end of Chepino Valley, one of the most attractive parts of the Rhodope Mountains. The numerous archaeological findings, such as stone and bone tools, bronze artefacts and others imply existence of life since ancient times in these places. Long lasting traces have been left by Thracians, Slavs, Byzantines, and Romans.
The abundance of mineral waters, the modern spa resort facilities, the mild climate and the wonderful natural conditions offer recreation all the year round. The sunny days come up to 74% annually. Fog is a rare phenomenon. Summer is cool, winter is mild and autumn is warm and pleasant. There are wonderful conditions for skiing in winter and no strong winds.
The mineral waters are the most generous gift of nature to Velingrad. The temperature of the waters distinguished for its ingredients is 28-86?C and they combine the curing properties of Hissar, Banya and Narechen spa resorts. There are six main thermal mineral deposits examined so far- Chepino, Ludjene 1, Ludjene 2, Kamenitza, Draginovo and Varvarski Bani. Their average flow is 9,000 litres of water per minute. The total number of mineral springs in Velingrad is about 80.
The mineral waters (from springs and wells) vary considerably in temperature, mineralisation, radon, silicic acid and fluorine content, and are suitable for treatment of a wide range of diseases: a number of pulmonary diseases, various orthopaedic disorders as well as neurological and gynaecological diseases, including sterility, kidney indisposition, liver diseases, gastrointestinal diseases etc.
Together with the numerous mineral waters Velingrad takes pride in another natural phenomenon as well - the Kleptuza. This is the biggest Karst spring in Bulgaria with a flow of 1,200 liters of ice-cold water per second.
